Kelly Clarkson is hands down, one of the best female singers out there today. I’ve loved her ever since she sang Natural Woman back in the early rounds of the first American Idol (yes, back in 2001!!). There are many qualities that makes her stand out above the crowd. Some might say it’s the sultry and soulful texture of her voice. Others might say that it’s those crazy high notes that she can hit with ease. Still others might point to her girl next door personality and charm.
But for me, I think what makes her so special is that her music is ‘real’. Whether she’s singing energetic rock songs (like Since U Been Gone and Walk Away) or slow ballads (such as Because of You and Sober), you know that she is delivering the song from her heart. When she sings, she doesn’t put up a front for the audience; she sings with no pretense whatsoever and exudes genuine emotions. So her songs have this distinct feel of being ‘free’ and ‘raw’, and it naturally touches your emotions. Don’t you agree?
In her new album, “All I Ever Wanted”, there’s a song called “Already Gone.” It doesn’t exactly fit squarely into any genre, kind of a fusion of soft rock and R&B. But I love it! The music and lyrics are already very powerful on their own, but Kelly Clarkson’s heartfelt delivery really takes it to the next level. You can really feel the internal struggle of leaving someone you love. I felt impelled to interpret it, so I did a cover! You can probably see through the video that my singing style very influenced by her (especially since I HAVE been a fan for almost 9 years
).
And to finish it off, to share my love for Kelly Clarkson, here are some download links to 3 of my favorite songs by her:

I’ve never seen a Kelly Clarkson music video, watched her sing at a concert, or read her interviews in the media… so my viewpoint of her music is entirely based on what i’ve heard both on the radio and on CDs. Fabulous stuff. I’ve always respected her as a terrific singer and definitely always took the chance to play her music on air whenever i could. =P
